"One looks back with appreciation to the brilliant teachers, but with gratitude to those who touched our human feelings. The curriculum is so much necessary material, but warmth is the vital element for the growing plant and for the soul of the child." -- Carl Jung

As I reflect on this quote, I thought of a particular teacher I had in junior high. My appreciation is to Sister Conchita taught 8th grade English but I think I learned more about life than grammar and the mechanics of the English language. She emphasized that no matter what we did, we always had a choice.
Now as an educator, I hope that my students will take more than just reading strategies or writing skills from my teachings. I hope through my teaching, I can impress what is important about making better choices in what they do.

Andrew and I did not attend class this evening. Andrew had to meet with his group to prepare a power point presentation for National History Day (NHD) for a Humanities class. His presentation was on a WWII war hero, Fleet Admiral Nimitz. This project took the collaboration of the group members to do the research, create the power point slide show to include music and animation. The project is almost complete and be ready for presentation next week.

Andrew and I worked on reading comprehension strategies: think aloud strategies and recognizing main idea and supporting details of a story. We worked on simple, short stories and eventually on complex texts.

  1. I love the quote! My favorite teacher was my fourth grade teacher, Mrs. Inay. She gave me the lecture of how reading is very important. Plus, she taught me calligraphy.

I missed you today! Keep working with Andrew. He is lucky to have a mother and teacher as you.

  2. I missed both you and Andrew...tell him I send him good thoughts and best luck wishes for his presentation! My daughter had Dr. G for history last year. She always complained about how he always strayed from the text and started sharing his own stories about life. I told her to listen and listen well because she will learn more from his stories than she will from the book!

  3. Wow!!! I strongly believe that Andrew will always say that you literally were his teacher and his mom! Good luck on the presentation! We missed you two on our field trip to the literacy center. The boys mingled a lot more than the usual. See you both soon.
