"Ideal teachers are those who use themselves as bridges over which they invite their students to cross, then having facilitated their crossing, joyfully collapse, encouraging them to create bridges of their own." -- Nikos Kazantzakis

I love this quote! It reminds me of scaffolding and ZPD. Helping students as they need it but then handing over the reigns and allowing them to explore and build schema on their own not only involves the student in their own learning but encourages them to seek out success.

Nathaniel was out sick today therefore we both stayed home tonight. I will conduct his session after school on Monday. I have really enjoyed being the bridge for Nathaniel and he has successfully crossed over many times. With each new idea I am there for him with new strategies and encouragement and when he has his "EUREKA" moment I want to jump up and do a dance! It's a wonderful feeling.

Happy Birthday on Friday Lucille...I hope you have some fun plans made!

See you all next week,
kate

  1. I love the quote! There are so many that seem to have an impact on me rather than last semester. Yes, you are the bridge for Nathaniel. I missed you today. We don't have class next week and the following week is Easter Break. I guess we'll see each other when we do our study sessions...wink...wink! Take Care!

  3. Missed you and Nathaniel in class today. I hope he's feeling better. You are definitely that bridge for Nathaniel. I feel your excitement as I think of my students and children having those "EUREKA" moments where you want the whole world to see. It's definitely a wonderful feeling, isn't it!
